A Surplus of Slimes - 2023

A total of 440 individual Slime designs over a 1 metre tall by 6 metres wide banner hosted at the Lowry Outlet in Salford alongside other Slime & non Slime exhibits from July 6th of 2023 to June 23rd 2024, this piece was inspired by Theodor Seuss Geisel's "Plethora of cats"
that contained 392 cats painted onto a 44 x 22 inch canvas.

Unlike with Theodor's work, I was not limited by the size of the canvas but I still wanted to challenge myself in some way & put my own spin on the idea, so I decided to make each of my Slimes designs individual.

I drew all 440 designs traditionally in 4 books now known as the Slime tombs, before tracing over all 440 illustrations in Photoshop & arranging them together in Illustrator to be resized & printed for the showcase.

A map of these slimes homeland
"The Biofula isles" created & signed off by the in universe Slime cartographer "Anaximander". While not entirely essential to the slime’s themselves the creation of this map helped me immensely while creating the Slimes stories & lore.
On "The Biofula isles" there are 9 different types of Slime to encounter.

A small set of 58 sealed beakers filled with multi-colored Slimes to hand out to the audience members who attended the event that took place at Lowry Outlet on July 6th of 2023.
To any audience members who attended the event & took one of these trinkets I would like to 1st thank you for coming out & 2nd apologise for the vials of slime handed out, time constraints did not allow me to test the longevity of the product, you are in no way responsible for your Slimes discoloration, evaporation & or death.
While all the slime have names only 150 or so have a bibliography/bestiary, due to time constraints & an as of now shelved book idea.

To add a more interactive element to the display I 3D modelled, printed & painted 3 small recreations of Vase's UFO, before submerging them each in different coloured slime & sealing them tighty in display case's of varying sizes for our attending audience to have a play about with.
